Derrick Anderson
The CABCS has been very influential in my college education. For Example, I couldn’t afford to pay for my books out of pocket for my Core class, Sociology, Acting 101, or Communication 201. Therefore, I used some funding to help pay for my books. Moreover, I wanted to be intentional about where my money was going, so I decided to spend it on all things Academics…I would utilize some of my funds to take bi-weekly weekends back home in Chicago to visit family, high school, mentors, and mentees.

I am blessed and honored to have been granted the amazing opportunity to not only pursue my degree at Southern University, but I am deeply humbled that the Chicago Black Caucus Committee believed in my dreams. During my first year of college, I can truly attest to the self-growth I have observed as I see the leader inside of me emerging daily. These lessons and more will prepare me to not only be successful personally and professionally but will also help me to pass along my experiences and knowledge to future generations.
